When you are first starting out, the last thing you want is to be a best kept secret. Put yourself out there by parting with brands that compliment yours. From your neighborhood bridal salon to a boutique hotel, pick a company that has your ideal clients as their own client base. Make it a win-win situation for you, your partners, and prospects.
Watch Your Margins
Its easy to to fall into the red with running your day to days as a florist. regardless of you being an event design firm or retail shop, you have to stay on top of your books. You can offset shrinkage by upgrading orders, focusing on services, and creating valuable packages for clients.
I am not talking about re-inventing the wheel. I am referring to staying true to your style of design, and connecting with your clients. Everyone loves and appropriates authenticity, so embrace what makes you different.
Embrace Your Fears
Many new florists or anyone thinking about starting out as one, always asks 'aren't there enough florists out there already'? My answer is always the same. You are proprietor. There is no other person with your skill set, your knowledge, your set of experiences and your story.
Off set your fears by implementing some sort of positive action. If your fear is I don't have anyone to sell to, then network as much as possible. If your scared you don't have the confidence to put yourself out there, practice with friends and family, and charge them. Don't let anything hold you back, work hard, and your efforts will pay off!
