When you're first starting out, the pressure to conduct the perfect consultation can be nauseating. In today's post you'll learn how to book your first client without the stress.
Step 1: Know who your client is and what they need.
Make sure you're crystal clear on who you are meant to serve and what services will give them their desired results. If your ideal clients are brides, then you'll want to have pricing, a portfolio, etc. geared towards wedding flowers. If your ideal clients are hotels, then you'll want to have an exotic collection of flower arrangements in your body of work, unique vases, and subscription packages designed for hotels.
Step 2: Prepare.
Stay in the know when it comes to trends, your competition, and your client's events. If you are going for booking more brides, then consider bridal expos, featuring your work at a bridal trunk show, creating gorgeous boards on Pinterest or partnering with the best wedding photographers in your area. If corporate clients are your goal, then consider connecting with your local chamber of commerce for bids or ending contract information on hotels in your area.
Step 3: Make great offers, not cheap ones.
So often we get florists and event stylists crying about how they keep booking cheap, annoying, and terrible clients. The thing is the problem clients are a reflection of the offers you are making available.
When you are first starting out, you'll be tempted to undersell your work. Just don't do it, don't.
When making an offer, be sure to include an itemized list of the value you are adding to the clients space, event, etc. Include any perks that come with booking with you such as a free toss bouquet, complimentary vase rental or delivery/set up inclusions.
